Our dedicated Board of Trustees provides oversight and leadership, strategic guidance and expert advice to the organisation. It is a consciously curated team of renowned experts and authorities with deep backgrounds in Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, law, child protection, and development communications.
The board as a team and the advisors in their individual capacities, are active ambassadors of our mission, who continuously manifest their commitment to the advancement and wellbeing of young women and girls.

Board Member
Dr. Satang Nabaneh
Dr. Nabaneh is a socio-legal scholar, researcher, consultant, and human rights advocate with expertise in human rights, comparative constitutional law, and democratisation. Her teaching, research and advocacy focus on international human rights law and monitoring mechanisms; human rights in Africa, with a particular focus on sexual and reproductive rights and women’s rights; democratisation in Africa and Gambian constitutional law. Dr Nabaneh is currently the Director of Programs at the Human Rights Center and Research Professor School of Law at the University of Dayton, Founder and Director of Law Hub Gambia and Co-Convener of the Sexual and Reproductive Rights Network in The Gambia. A prize-winning scholar, she is the co-editor of The Gambia in Transition: Towards a New Constitutional Order (Pretoria University Law Press, 2022) and Sexual Harassment, Law and Human Rights in Africa (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023). Her latest book is Choice and Conscience: Lessons from South Africa for a Global Debate (2023). Dr. Nabaneh believes in harnessing legal scholarship and promoting inclusive policies in the development process of The Gambia and beyond.

Board Chairperson
Njundu Drammeh
Njundu is a children’s rights activist, with more than 20 years of experience in child rights and child protection law and policies in The Gambia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Delhi. Currently, he is a Commissioner at the Gambia’s National Human Rights Commission, priori to which he was the National Coordinator of the Child Protection Alliance, the only child rights coalition in The Gambia. He has previously served in other roles including at the Department of Social Welfare and served as a national United Nations Volunteer with UNICEF. Njundu is a trainer on national and international legal frameworks and standards relating to children, child protection and child rights programming. His interests include women’s rights promotion, gender-based violence and human rights in general. These interests have seen him lead the facilitation of capacity building efforts at national, regional and international levels. He engages in advocacy and research on child protection and has great commitment to the cause of children.

Kaddijatou Jabbie
Kaddijatou is an advocate for women and girls rights and a seasoned Community Development Practitioner. She is an activist for social right's and the advancement of youths, women and girls of the rural areas. Kaddijatou has volunteered in different Organisations in The Gambia and beyond from her teen years and has been actively contributing to the welfare of youths, women and girls in rural Gambia for the past 15 years. Kaddijatou’s vision is to see that rural youths, women and girls have equal opportunities, knowledge and resources like their urban fellows, thus she uses her professional skills and experience to support and work with organisations to realise this.

Board Secretary
Musu Bakoto Sawo
Musu is a feminist and human rights lawyer and defender with over 18 years of experience in children’s and women's rights advocacy and activism. She holds a Master of Laws in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa and a Master of Global Affairs in International Peace Studies and Gender Studies. With over 10 years of leadership experience in program and policy development, advocacy, and fundraising, Musu has made significant contributions in non-profit organisations and public institutions in The Gambia and across the African continent. Throughout her career, she has gained extensive experience working with women, girls, and marginalised and oppressed groups and communities. She has applied this knowledge to contribute to capacity building, research, networking, program development, and practical engagement with women and youth-led initiatives. Musu has collaborated with grassroots, national, and international organisations, while leading and supporting the establishment and growth of several social change organisations and initiatives in The Gambia. In these roles, she has been dedicated to empowering women and girls by equipping them with human rights knowledge while advocating for their involvement in decision-making positions, including active participation in politics and peacebuilding. She is deeply committed to nurturing leadership, promoting diversity, equity, and addressing issues of racial, social, and gender justice within the philanthropic landscape. Musu is the recipient of numerous international and African human rights awards, including the 2018 Commonwealth Points of Light from Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2020 Daily Trust African of the Year, and the Vera Chirwa Award from the Center for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. All these awards recognize her work for women and girls in The Gambia and beyond, particularly in relation to harmful traditional practices such as female genital mutilation (FGM).

Board Member
Jama Jack
Jama is a communications specialist, gender justice activist, and feminist storyteller from The Gambia. She has over 10 years of professional experience in strategic communication, community engagement and brand management. Her educational background is in Journalism and Communications Studies, and Sexual and Reproductive Rights in Africa. Jama has led communications teams and managed work portfolios at various institutions including the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UNICEF The Gambia, Eyala, and the University of The Gambia. Jama is interested in the intersection between communication, community engagement and social change, and uses her expertise and experiences to drive her work as a feminist communications professional. She has worked extensively with non-profit, feminist organisations and movements in The Gambia and West Africa. Jama embraces the many forms of storytelling, including filmmaking and podcasting, to drive her vision to achieve personal and collective liberation.
